Tips for cleaning brass
Brass should be cleaned regularly with Mr. Sheen and soft cloth.
When the brass becomes pitted, i.e. lacquer breaking down, strip lacquer off (paint stripper is best) polish with “Brasso” or “Shower power”. Then re-lacquer product with Incralac (Wattyl product) or similar spray lacquer for copper and brass.
Important – make sure product is warm before spraying, this reduces bubbles.
Tips for measuring hinges/mortice locks
Mortice locks have a variety of back plate depths, meaning the rebate needs to be measured before a replacement lock is ordered. To measure a mortice lock follow these easy steps,
For replacement locks, remove the lock and measure the depth ( picture) and width.
For new locks, before making a recess (or cutout) ensure the door style (frame) has enough space to allow for a lock.

Loose pin hinges
Loose pin hinges have a removable pin between the two parts of the hinge, these are typically used on internal doors that require occasional removal (for cleaning or repainting) and are not recommended for use on external doors.
Fixed pins have, as the name suggests, a fixed pin between the two parts of the hinge, the pins are typically made from stainless steel for durability, long wearing and protection against rusting. These are suitable for use on internal and external doors.
Lever count’s may vary between 3-5, the main differences are in the mechanism operation and security. It is advisable to check with your home insurance company prior to fitting Mortice locks on external doors as some may have specific guidelines on lock types.

Fan light adjuster
Fan light adjusters allow door fan lights to be opened and closed with your feet firmly on the ground, they are fitted to architraves and the fan light frame and allow for easy operation (assuming your fan light swivels). The models we stock also allows the fan light to be left partially open.
